In an increasingly competitive academic environment, students of all ages are expected to absorb vast amounts of information, develop independent learning strategies, and manage their time effectively - all while navigating the pressures of school life. For many, these skills don’t come naturally and aren’t explicitly taught in the classroom.
That’s where we can help at The Life Skills Company.
With a strong reputation built over two decades, at The Life Skills Company we provide expertly delivered, large-group study skills workshops in schools across the UK.
These interactive, enjoyable sessions equip students with practical tools to become confident, motivated and independent learners.
From upper Key Stage 2 to sixth form, our workshops are tailored to suit the developmental needs of each year group and are a valuable addition to any school’s approach to student development.

Building the Foundations: Study Skills for Years 5 and 6
Before secondary school even begins, pupils in Years 5 and 6 are already being introduced to more structured learning environments and increasing academic expectations. This transitional phase can be daunting, and instilling effective study habits early can make all the difference.
At The Life Skills Company we offer workshops specifically designed for this age group, focusing on developing key learning behaviours and building confidence.
Through fun, engaging activities, pupils learn how to organise their work, stay focused, and understand the value of persistence. These early experiences lay the groundwork for a smoother transition to secondary school, equipping pupils with the self-belief and strategies to thrive.
Study Skills for Years 7–11: A Progressive Approach
Once students enter secondary school, the demands on their academic performance begin to escalate.
At The Life Skills Company our workshops for Years 7 to 11 are carefully designed to grow with students as they move through the key stages. Whether they are just beginning their secondary education or gearing up for GCSEs, our workshops provide valuable support at each stage.
For younger year groups (Years 7–9), our focus is on developing a positive mindset towards learning, introducing basic organisational and memory techniques, and helping students understand how they learn best. These workshops are particularly effective in encouraging self-awareness and ownership of learning, setting students on a path toward becoming independent learners.
As students progress into Years 10 and 11, our Maximising Success series becomes especially relevant. These revision skills workshops are designed to help students prepare for their GCSE exams with confidence. They explore how memory works, introduce a range of engaging and effective revision techniques, and help students create structured study plans.
By demystifying the revision process and making it feel more manageable, these workshops ease exam anxiety and promote a proactive, can-do attitude. What’s more, they fit conveniently into a standard lesson slot and can be delivered to whole year groups at once - making them as practical for schools as they are for students.
Sixth Form Success: Developing Independence and Drive
Sixth form is a critical juncture in a student’s academic journey. The shift from teacher-led instruction to independent study can be a challenge, and many students struggle with the self-management required for success at this level.
At The Life Skills Company we curated sixth form programmes designed to meet these challenges head-on, helping students become more autonomous, motivated and prepared for life after school.
Our Independent Learning Workshop equips sixth formers with four core skills essential for academic and professional success: speed reading, effective note-taking, condensing and summarising information, and time management. These are not just ‘nice-to-haves’ - they are vital tools that help students take control of their studies, improve retention, and make the most of their time.
In addition to study techniques, at The Life Skills Company we offer a targeted Personal Statement Writing Workshop. In this workshop students are guided through the process of drafting their UCAS personal statements, learning how to structure their writing, showcase their strengths and articulate their aspirations. By the end of the session, each student will have produced a first draft and received an action plan for further development - saving valuable time and reducing stress in the application process.
Supporting the Whole School Community
One of our key strengths at The Life Skills Company is our holistic approach to learning.
Each of our workshops can be complemented by briefings for staff and parents, ensuring that the techniques taught in sessions are supported and reinforced at home and in the classroom. This whole-community approach strengthens the impact of our training and creates a shared language around effective learning.
We have found that schools benefit from a flexible, well-organised delivery model, which is why all our workshops are designed to be engaging, memorable and easy to timetable, fitting within standard lesson durations where required.
