Independent Learning Conference

Our Independent Learning Conference allows a whole year group to practice independent learning techniques that they can then use immediately and across the curriculum, helping to enhance their success in the sixth form and at university.

Students learn techniques to help them:

  • Successfully make the transition to sixth form learning
  • Achieve their maximum potential in their sixth form exams
  • Prepare for success at university and in the workplace
  • This conference will be tailored to the needs of your school, however it might for example include the following topics:

  • Speed & Skim Reading (helping students to read around their subjects)
  • Note Taking (helping students to make effective notes and be selective about what they note)
  • Effective Learning (helping students to learn effectively and proactively throughout their studies)
  • Time Management (helping students with work/life balance and avoiding lastminute.com)
  • Condensing Text (helping students to extract information from different sources, and understand plagiarism and referencing)
  • Convincing Presentations (helping students to create a persuasive case and get their message across)
  • Here are some student comments from previous workshops:

The skills I learnt were easy to apply and relevant to the different style of

    work at A- level.

Focused on the real pressures we face & how to help.

Very useful skills , wish I’d known them earlier!

Gave me many ideas about how to change my plans for social life, schooling and work organisation.

Useful techniques we wouldn’t have learned otherwise.
